Before I knew it, it was noon. The hot summer sun gleamed down upon us as we broke our

backs tending to the acre of land for some new center Enon had offered to house on his land. We

cleared bush and I had the pleasure of working the bulldozer, grading the land to prepare for the

building.

Enon was a hands-on type guy, and rather than farm out the project, he injected himself and

some on his farm hands to do the pre-work. I found it hard at times to keep my focus; Enon’s

body was drenched in sweat. It didn’t surprise me that he walked around shirtless. Maybe it was

more for my benefit than his.

“That’s good boy,” Enon shouted over the bulldozer’s roaring engine.

I cut her off and jumped down to survey my work; not bad for a first timer. My childhood

years of watching "Bob the Builder" had finally paid off.

“That’s lunch, fellas!” Enon shouted as he walked towards me. The sweat had coated the top

of his jeans and I could see the top line of his boxer briefs as they hung low enough to show off

his abs. “I think we made some progress. Looks damn good.”

“Yep, thanks to you cracking your whip, Mr. Enon Green.”

“Well, someone has to lead you slackers. At least I allow you to eat,” he said, spraying me

with water from his jug.

“Bastard! You got me all wet!”

“I tend to have that effect,” he said, taking a swig of water. “Time to eat. I got something nice

planned for us for the rest of the day.”

We hopped in his truck and drove up to the house to find Milly waiting outside with two big

baskets. She eased down the steps and placed the baskets in the back of the cab. “You boys enjoy

now!” she said with a smirk.

Enon sped down the dirt road and cut to the right, down a gravel covered road.

“Where we headed?” I asked.

Enon looked over and flashed a bright smile. “You’ll see.”

My phone ringer blared through my jeans. I reached in to silence it.

Enon fidgeted with the radio. “Wow, you’re mister popular.”

“It’s just work.”

“But you work for yourself?”

“I mean it’s about my work.”

“Ahh—okay,” he said, turning his attention back to the road.

We were headed deep into the woods. “Where are you taking me?”

“Just wait… it’ll come to you.”

As we rounded the corner a familiar tree appeared and I knew.

“I haven’t been here since—”

“Yep, I know,” Enon said, glancing over at me as he placed his hand on my thigh. It sent

tingly sensations throughout my body. I placed my hand on top of his as our bodies rocked and

we made our way down the dirt road to our old hangout spot.

The pond was attached to Enon’s property, but situated far enough back that it was in the

middle of nowhere. It was a childhood hideout for me and Enon; our own little escape. A place

where we would sit for hours and sometimes camp overnight just to get away from the folks. It

was the place where Enon and I first had each other completely.
